Hilton Garden Inn Fairfax welcomes local author John Gilstrap

Have you read Threat Warning yet? This thrilling novel by local author John Gilstrap kept my eyes glued to the page from the beginning to the end. It was my first introduction to his work and to him. John lives in the local area and has been writing novels for several years. But his personal life's story is just as interesting as the characters he writes about. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet him late July when we were chosen as the host hotel for a Hilton Garden Inn sponsored book signing and meet and greet with the author.

And just why, you may ask, was Hilton Garden Inn so interested in this particular story? As it turns out, John set a scene in a ficticious Hilton Garden Inn following an episode of outstanding customer service at real Hilton Garden Inn. That's a way to get the word out!

Thank you to our vendor sponsors. These gorgeous linens were provided courtesy of Gala Cloths by Dulaney and the fresh floral centerpieces were provided by Maryam Flowers. They looked fabulous that night and lasted forever. So long, in fact, I was able to have fresh flowers on my desk all week! Thank you both for making this event beautiful!

John is such a warm person and he's so easy to talk to. Here he is speaking with our General Manager, Steve Steinberg.

Amado offers up some yummy crab cakes! For those who are thirsty, we offered traditional martinis and our own variation called the Threatini featuring the juice of blood oranges. Delish!

Mmmmmm. Four flavors of mousse including my favorite - S'mores! I can't resist!

And of course, HGIs own Josh Thompson was on hand to tweet about the whole event as it was unfolding live.

Thank you to everyone who made this event a success and especially to John Gilstrap for joining us at this fun party!

Fall In Love: Elizabeth and Ryan, September 19, 2009

Elizabeth and Ryan were a very easy going couple and a lot of fun to work with. Their wedding day was a mild fall September afternoon and was perfect for a wedding! Before the ceremony at Grace Presbyterian Church, they got ready at the hotel and did a "first sighting" photo shoot.

They took some photos in and around the church before a bubble send-off and a limo ride to the hotel.

Everything in the Providence Ballroom was set in pale shades of green with autumn flowers and fall flair. Table cloths, napkins with ribbon ties and chair covers with sashes were provided by Gala Cloths by Dulaney.

After their first dance and champagne toast, they enjoyed a delicious buffet including:
Dijon-Crusted Pork Tenderloin with Wild Mushrooms
Mahi Mahi with Tropical Fruit Salsa
Chicken stuffed with Rice and Walnuts in Pomegranate Cream

After cutting the cake, Ryan and Elizabeth danced the night away!

Best wishes to Elizabeth and Ryan for a long and happy marriage!

Menu Tasting on November 12th was a yummy success!

Everyone that attended the menu tasting on November 12th had a great time! The good news, they brought their appetites! Here are a few photos from the event taken by our friends at Simple Pleasures Photography.

The buffet was decorated using white and yellow lighting. A sprinkling of flower petals completed the look while allowing the food to be featured event!

Raul applied the finishing touches to some of our featured tables showcasing some recent additions to our hors d' oeuvres menu as well as delicious wedding cake provided by Wanda's Cake Decorating.

You can really see the impact of the stronger blue and red lighting. After finishing with the decor, Raul made his way over to the bar where he offered Copperidge wines and soft drinks to our guests.

Once everything was in place, we opened the doors and the guests made their way to their tables. Although we always provide a standard table set-up, Donna with Gala Cloths by Dulany graciously provided us with some sample chair covers, sashes and colored napkins for display.

The lovely centerpieces and flower petal were courtesy of Rick at the Flower Gallery of Chantilly.
